Mrs. Art

I have two weeks left teaching art for this school year. I taught in two public schools this year. The Delta Art Alliance is who I work for and it's a great program bringing art and music into schools that would otherwise not have that opportunity. I teach every class 5-8 sessions. Currently, in one school I'm teaching Kindergarten and the other school I'm with the 3rd graders. I really enjoy encouraging the kids and giving them the opportunity to be creative. Some of the kids have a difficult time with my name, especially when they see me out of the school, around town. They call me Mrs. Powers, but often, they just say, "Hey, Mrs. Art".

The River

Last weekend we went to a cabin on the Mississippi River with some friends. We grilled out and walked down to enjoy the beautiful sunset!

Juke Joint Festival 2013

We had a great weekend in Clarksdale volunteering for the annual Juke Joint Festival. It's the biggest event Clarksdale puts on every year, it celebrates the blues and brings in people from all over the world! Here is the website for the event. It's the same weekend in April every year.

Rainer and I worked the merchandise tent for a few hours and Rainer also volunteered at the 5K race and taking down tents.  We had fun spending some time with Aubrey (Rainer's sister). We also enjoyed checking out all the art tents and eating our way around town!

What Chemo?

We have had a good visit with mom and dad the past few days. I went with mom to her first chemo treatment yesterday. It was a five hour deal. The chemo room is full of lazy boys for patients with chairs next to them for family/friends. Mom got prep drugs and then chemo, followed by another visit today for a quick shot.

The good news is that she feels great! She doing things like walking for miles:

And things like four-wheeling with dad (in his throwback jacket):

Praise God for treatments to fight cancer and no side effects of chemo so far.
